We were delighted to assist Salix, the river restoration and erosion control specialists, to clear trees from the middle of a river island on the River Gade near Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire recently.
This project was part of the broader river restoration strategy to use natural resources to slow the flow of water and also deflect water to change the course of the flow. In this instance wooden debris and coir rolls and pallets were used, rather than hard landscaping and concrete.
The aim is to mitigate the effects of flooding whilst restoring the natural state and functioning of the river system to better support biodiversity and improve the resilience of the river systems.
