13th September 2021 //  by Sharon

Fencing SlaptonWe are very pleased with the latest project undertaken in Slapton, Northamptonshire.

We were lucky to enjoy a bright, sunny spell when we installed 165 metres of post and rail wooden fencing in rural Northamptonshire. We also then added wire stock netting for extra security to contain the livestock.

The whole team enjoyed working on this fencing project and the clients Mr and Mrs Thomas were delighted with the outcome. If you would like help with post and rail fencing or stock netting, call us on 01327 354 789 for a quote.

New Fencing in Greens Norton

7th June 2021 //  by Sharon

Wooden Fencing Greens NortonTake a look at the ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures from a recent fencing project in Greens Norton.

We replaced the existing fencing on two sides of the garden with a smart new fence last month. The new, higher, wooden fence is not only robust but also provides more privacy. The customer was very pleased and said:  ‘Thanks for the great work, the fence looks brilliant!!’  Mrs Lovell, Greens Norton.

Willow Tree Reduction in Blakesley

20th May 2021 //  by Sharon

Tree ReductionWe were recently called to Blakesley in Northamptonshire to do a crown reduction on a large Willow tree. We reduced a significant area of the crown (both laterally & vertically) as Willows can tolerate heavier crown reductions (they are good at putting on regrowth).

FYI when we reduce a tree, we cut every branch back to a suitable growth point along the branch we are reducing. By cutting back to a growth point we not only help to keep a natural shape but also promote the formation of healthy secondary growth and good tree health (FYI a growth point is a secondary branch growing off of a main branch). Reductions can also reduce encroachment onto the surrounding area.

The client was delighted with the outcome. If you would like a quote for an expert tree reduction call 01327 354 789.

Leylandii Tree Pruning

13th January 2020

Leylandii trimming TowcesterCheck out the before and after photos of these Leylandi trees.

We were called in to prune these fast-growing, evergreen Leylandii trees. They have been known to grow to heights of 15 metres in 16 years and these had certainly become enormous. It was a pretty challenging day’s work but we were pleased with the result and most importantly the client was very happy.

Well done to the Allen Groundcare team!

Spring Tips for your Trees

22nd March 2019

Spring is nearly here now and it is a great time to give your trees some attention. Check out these handy tips….

Inspect your trees from all angles – Spring is a great time to examine your trees as Winter can be tough on trees. Look out for any areas of damage, disease or pest infestations. If you notice any of these, including mushrooms or other fungi growing on your tree, it usually a sign of a problem and needs to checked out professionally. A qualified tree surgeon can provide a professional inspection and offer solutions.

Prune dead or diseased tree branches – If you want healthy trees then proper pruning is vital. It helps your tree to stay healthy and removes any unsafe branches that may have suffered damage from storms or floods in the winter. Pruning large or high branches should be done by an expert who has the right equipment and training to carry out the job safely.

Mulch your trees – this helps to lock in moisture during the warmer months, Don’t overdo it, keep thickness down to a few inches and never cover the basal flare of the tree i.e. leave a clear mulch free doughnut shape around the tree trunk base. Overdoing the mulch around the trunk can deprive a tree of air, water and nutrients it needs to develop and grow.

Also if you pile mulch up right up against the trunk of the tree, the moisture and heat can’t escape, and the trunk and root can rot more easily. It can also cause developments of cankers and can encourage a secondary roots system to develop above the primary one, which could include girdling roots.

And last but not least…. why not plant a new tree? Spring is the perfect time to do so. If you would like help or advice on any of the above call us, a leading Northamptonshire Tree Surgeons on (01327) 354789.
